A Clean Money Congress

What is the goal?

Our goal is to raise $200 million dollars for 100 Progressive Democratic candidates for the US House of Representatives and 20 Progressive Democratic candidates for the US Senate on the Fourth of July.

How are we going to do it?

By building a list of a MILLION small contributors each pledging $200, $1 to each House candidate and $5 to each Senate candidate.

What do I need to do?

Join our email newsletter linked below or on the side to show your support for the effort, then tell your friends and family, add us as a Myspace or Facebook friend and put us in your Top Friends, watch and discuss our videos on YouTube, and subscribe to our YouTube channel, then check back here regularly for ideas about spreading the word to build the contributors list.

Why are we doing this?

Because money is the mother's milk of politics and without strong financial backing our candidates can't win, which means that corporate America wins, wouldn't you rather see our government represent "We the people of the United States" for a change?

Can the Grassroots Change Politics?

The slow start over the first 24 hours has gained a little speed, certainly not a lot of speed, and decidedly not enough speed to give the flywheel the momentum it will need to keep spinning on its own, but an encouraging buildup of steam has continued, with the help that this site's supporters have shown during the first two days.

About 70% of the visitors didn't stay long enough for the website to have much of an impact on their thoughts or opinions, about 5 seconds, but about 15% stayed for more than 20 minutes, so the website was clearly making an impression on these people.

For those of you reading this blog posting, who want to help with this effort, I would encourage you to forward an email about the site to your friends and family, and digg some of the articles on this site, or promote it at other social bookmarking sites. I would also encourage you to post a comment about the site on your favorite blog or web discussion board.

Today I am going to be promoting the site by continuing a cross-country trip from Los Angeles to New York that has my car decorated with the name of the website.

Thanks for you support, and keep up the effort. It may take a few months for this small core of supporters to build a movement, but we have time for the flywheel to gain the speed it will need to grow to a million member movement.

For those who need encouragement, I remind you of one important fact, Moveon.org has more than 3 million members, so the goal isn't unattainable.
